The Halls Head race start
from North Mole.
Back on the race course for a while.
I was coaxed into watching the start of the Halls Head race from North Mole and it was entirely Betty Walsh's fault. They have recently had the hull of Twitch "wrapped" by Guy Skinner and I was asked whether I had a recent photo of them. No, I admitted and I figured that it was easier to go down on Saturday morning and try out the new camera system against the old one and get those photos that Betty wanted. So by now they are sitting on her phone. ( 3 pm Saturday)
However it was interesting to see the new Enterprise, a Botin-Carkeek 42. A little smaller than the Carkeek 47 that is called Indian, but she's a newer boat and driven by a cunning man. And Ocean Ranger.. dear me she spent a long time on the slips at SoPYC. Everything ripped out and then put back in again. Again I'll be interested to see how she performs.
Otherwise, a great collection of yachts and it was a pity that they couldn't find that 3rd ( or 4th ) boat to sail in the Dubs. However it made the Div 2 fleet that little bigger and that's all good. All this and running into a light southerly that is supposed to swing into the sou west. A few jib changes on the way down perhaps and hopefully they will have a good kite run home tomorrow .
Oh and they had the start of the Billy Run as well and there were several boats lumbering around the start line waiting for the big fellas to clear out. So that will account for the strange boats that I caught on the way through.
