The image above saves me an awful lot of explaining and I'm grateful for the chance to have a peek at the Hansa/Liberty Sailors this weekend.
I spent 6 years with Sailability and I have great respect for both the volunteers and the people who attend the sessions during summer. I have some brief moments this weekend to follow the sailors ( during the mornings ) and I'll try to get some pictures up over the next few days. Wish you all well and many thanks to those who have already put in so much to this cause.

Sunday Morning
The 28th of November.
What a morning.
Out of sheer perversity, I chose to go over to the freeway side and try from there. It meant that I went to the Thelma st walk over and walked down the bike path to get a clean shot up to the club. Reasonable successful, but the fuel jetty beckoned and when I arrived I was informed that I actually had a ride on the safety boat that morning. Sorry folks. My apologies, I’d clearly not read the volunteers plan prior to the day.
However I saw the last race for the regatta and I watched a masterclass in action. The crowd on the fuel jetty was roaring, as at the top mark the main group of the fleet of Liberty’s were not separated by more than a few meters, with only bad luck taking out back markers who would still have had a chance otherwise. This was sailing at its best and the battle between Genevieve Wickham and Mike Cull was sorted out in the last race. No quarter spared and none give. A special mention to Rod Angwin who I met briefly prior to the event. He didn’t give way easily either and it was clear he liked a stiff breeze.
To the 303 singles. I’ve sailed the 303 and I acknowledge the mastery these people showed. Rob Crofts tried building a picket fence and was successful in holding out the Albany contestant Chris Oldham with Limeburner.
In the dubs, well done to all including the Sunday sailors with Tim and Rob heading out onto the water to try their luck, but Jean and Scott took the win from Jen and Lorelle though I do understand Lorelle's shock when matched up with such a string puller as Jen.. OMG she's fun on a Flying 15.
To John Hassen RO and his team on the start boat. Well done and to all the crowd who threw their hats in the ring to help, many thanks. It was a most enjoyable regatta. We have to mention our sister club in Sailability, Royal Perth Yacht club and their assistance on the water and of course, on the hardstand and in the bar :-).
The last lot of photos may be found below. Enjoy the images.

Saturday Morning
The 27th of November.
All this and try and go sailing this arvo.
Briefly a good nor easter had the yachts moving up and down the course nicely and the first race was a course two.. now which side do you pick. Going left you actually were going away from the marks, but the lift on the other side was good. Some went right and did famously. Others climbed ladders
No matter, many thanks to the mob under the start box and all the volunteers who assembled there. And to Kate Lammonby who took over Jen Sims role this morning taking Lorelle Hughes out on the water. On ya Kate.

Friday Afternoon.
The 26th of November
A boomer of a breeze and a bunch of Hansa's.
Perfect.
Sure there were a couple still feeling their way on the water and I do have to applaud Jen and Lorelle who simply went for it. And surely that was Mitch Stone out on a 303 all on his own? Perhaps not.. however..
The major contenders in the Liberty class were Genevieve, Tracy and Rod, who apparently knew where they were going. Well share the points out sailors, 'cause you are all on 6 points. That just means everyone else will be knocking on your transom.. And its a soft day tomorrow.
I mentioned Jen and Lorelle as one of the tandem 303's and Jen is a Sh#t hot F15 sailor. Give her a 303? It wasn't loaded Jen, but you were there.
To the single 303's and perhaps the fellow from Albany wants to invest in a few more bottles of decent whiskey. I've tasted the brew from Lime burners and its half way decent. The bottles could be shared with the fleet and possibly one for the RO and the photographer? However he has to get past Rob Crofts who managed to notch up two wins.
No joking, as any one who can deal with the wicked breezes around the start- finish line on the Canning is really good. More races have been lost than won by not reading the booming sou wester as it progresses into the south. Keeping in mind the flicks of breeze off Heathcote Point.
I'll be around the startline sometime tomorrow, but I sail on Saturdays. So I can only do the am.

Friday Morning.
The 26th of November
A few boats scattered around the lawn, bodies hunched over boats and the relentless sun beating down. Its going to be a hot one folks.
I took the opportunity to wander around and briefly chat to people and take the odd photo of the set up.. its going to be a good afternoon if the breeze comes in and I hope to sitting up in the Start box with a long lens looking at the boats on the water.
But these are preliminary looks at the Royal Perth contingent as they set up and possibly a few Liberty's being tuned up for the day. They look ok to me, just hope that the breeze works for them.

Thursday the 25th of November
Popped down to see what they were doing and there was David SS working away on the Hansa's with the help of a couple of lovely people who were sticking on labels and scraping off old ones. I explained what I had in mind and we looked at what we could do with camera's and the mounting thereof on the Hansa's.
Shortly afterwards John H rolled up and I was seconded into the task of moving the mast over to the new start boat. Fortunately I didn't have to put the thing on, but it was a task indeed. We also had the delivery of a couple of girls with their " Liberties" another slightly bigger one person sailing dinghy. Glad that there were three or four blokes available to help them.
When I left, the bosun and John H were busy tying the mast onto the boat. Just hope it doesn't blow hard.
