Eun Na Mara at Cockburn Sound 2016
On the invitation of Ralph and Lynne I joined the Bird of the Sea at the Cockburn Sound Regatta for the Tuesday long passage race in the classic cruising division.
The previous day they had done another long passage race and it came out around the 5 hrs mark. A long bloody trip I was assured by all and sundry. It was going to be a stinker as well 42 degrees ashore, though by the time we were on the water the seabreeze was starting to nudge the sails and it was a relief to say the least. So we got ourselves set with the new bowsprit loaded up with an asymmetric spinnaker and an extremely able man helping Ralph and the crew in the set up. G'day Jason :-). Up it went as we rounded the day buoy and we launched ahead. After the trial of the asymmetric, we switched to the standard spinnaker and in the light breeze we overhauled all but Graeme Monkhouse and Lithium who had got away early in the piece.
Then the race came back to local knowledge and the Long Boat worked their way into the lift off Garden Island and soared past us. Another lesson learnt. Our battle then came back to a new boat called Twitch .... something of about 40 odd feet and pretty quick in the freshening breeze. The last minute or so is unusual for a video .... no vision, but the dialogue makes up for it. We got to the line in front and that's what mattered. Enjoy the video and I make no apologies for the gunnel shots on the leeside of the boat.

Eun Na Mara returns
In mid November Eun Na Mara finally returned back onto the water at Freo and two weeks later she had her first day out on the water.
Take some time to look at the finish of this boat. It's bloody marvelous. Nick's work is exemplary and she was gleaming from clear across the river as I looked at her. Keeping her in good nick will be a challenge and Ralph knows that he's still got to finish off details like running lights and those pesky stays on the bowsprit, but over all she's looking good.
I was also on the water and had an opportunity to see her out there, including a meeting at Brickies where they just roared past us and thank god my little boat camera worked. But take your time.... there's more to come.
