Sunday the 27th of October.
A warm sunny day with the breeze building out of the North East.
Sounds like a good start to the day.
How wrong can you be?
For my sins I was allocated out onto Charlie Course and only just managed to visit Bravo Course for a short while, so my apologies to the Opti's and other associated smaller dinghies on Alpha. I wanted to get over there, but Mike my driver and I were helping the start team on Charlie. Thanks to every one on Ralph's boat, a nice cup of tea!
What a day.
Starts off with a very light breeze that none of the RO's could make enough of, then started to build out of the N/E. By 1100 hrs or so we were starting to crank and the start line fired up with a mix of Contenders, Musto's and 29's making their way over the line. A couple of Moths come into view and they are welcomed into a start line of Vipers and SB 20's . The pictures tell the story as the day evolves. Good racing with light airs and around 1200 it started to get black toward the North. A quick look at the radar confirmed a storm cell on the way down the coast.
It swerved around us, but gave us plenty of wind to play with and a backdrop against which some great images came from. Look at the Mustos. Rain came through as well and there was plenty of lightning to stir things up. Then the storm passed and the wind started to swirl around again making start lines hard to determine and pressure was up and down until finally a westerly came in and the late arriving 49's had joined us by then and started testing out their equipment and the course.
