When three of the best boats in a class get onto the river.......
The single hull and double hull sailors have a hoot each year as they fly around the river, determined to be the best fleet of three on the Swan. Everything from the GP 14 to Cherubs, factoring in the Mustos and the Fx's with 49'rs on the water as well. Then add the foiling Moth defending their title from last year . A very quick sort of day particularly if the sea breeze is in.
The day started in a peaceful mode with a light westerly in by about midday. As I drove over the Narrows you could see the water ruffling up, so there was the chance that the westerly would swing left and give us a sea breeze .
The race officer had us sorted and apart from laying marks, we were home free. The double hulls were missing this year ... something about sailing on a Saturday rather than a Sunday, but I 'm sure that they will have that sorted out for next year. Starting with a seabreeze course the start was an upwind to the gates in front of the club with the Gps turning right and staying inside the bay and the rest went left and "outside" . The first dash took them to Addison and then all the way up to Deepwater with the Moths predictably in front, but the Fx's were not far behind and it was of interest to see that they were chasing down the sole 49er out on the course. Go the girls! The mix of Cherubs and 505's did well and were consistent over the race track with the mixed teams from the Perth dinghy sailing club doing well. Oops sorry Sharpie, forgot to mention that the 505's were from Freshie .
